Muzzammil Ali Khan led a delegation to the office of the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Northern Railway, at Ambala on 9 October and handed over a representation on rail services for Malerkotla district.
It says several superfast trains pass through Malerkotla, a district headquarters, without stopping, and people go by road to Dhuri or Ludhiana to board them.
It asks for five trains to halt at Malerkotla: the Sarbat Da Bhala Express (22479/22480), New Delhi–Firozpur Cantt Intercity (22485/22486), Hazur Sahib Nanded–Amritsar Express (12421/12422), Kota–Udhampur Express (20985/20986) and Udhampur–Indore Express (22941/22942).
It also asks for the single Jakhal–Ludhiana line to be doubled and for a new direct train from Malerkotla to Rishikesh. He said the DRM’s office gave an assurance that the representation would be examined.
Malerkotla is a district headquarters, not a small station.Muzzammil Ali Khan
